Medium Wave is also split into channels starting at 531 kHz (Channel 1) going up to 1602 kHz (Channel 120).

So 1017 is Channel 55, and 855 would be Channel 37.

Having said that, Sunshine is the only station I have ever heard use the term.

There are quite a few clips of Sunshine on You tube. We have copies of the same stuff on video and also some camcorder stuff which we will upload to this site eventually.

Thanks ever so for that Gary, I'm in the picture now!

As you are a mine of info on radio, I've been in the past trying to find out about that 1980s Radio Wyvern theme song that always used to open and close the station at 6am and 8pm respectively. It had some really bizarre lyrics:

Home is a place where you always turn to
And if you want you could really learn to fly!

Reminded me of that old 'Life Is A Beautiful Book' song by Stephanie De Sykes that you'd always hear at the start of ATV in the early 70s. I heard that Wyvern actually released this on a 7" single in the early 80s, and most of their early jingle beds were built round this initial theme. Googling this has come to nought.

Anyone know what I mean? - Thanks.

On the subject of ATV, I picked up a book in B'ham city centre W.H.Smith called "From Dusk Till Dawn - a story of independent television in the midlands", its in the local history section.

Very interesting read.....

Thank you Martin. I'm going home on Wednesday so I'll check out Smiths and all the other bookshops. The stuff concerning ATV/Central on Youtube is worth having a gawp at.

Right, let's have a butchers at the new Sunshine stuff then...

No time to do Smiths I'm afraid but I did take my mobile with me, which has a radio. Great to hear so many pirates on the airwaves. Sting FM 107.5's signal reached as far as Longbridge on my receiver, although there was another reggae station on 107.0 whose signal came and went whilst walking round town. The ravers on 92 and Kriss were strongest in town along with Sting.

I never bother with taking my pocket DAB receiver into town now!

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Wyvern used to sell this on blue 7" in reception for 99p. It was simply called "Wyvern" by Boone & Murfin.

I have a copy on mp3 if you would like it.

I really don't know where to begin except to say my short time at Sunshine Radio was some of the happiest i can remember. It is a lesson to all the playlisted radio stations today ,owned by Global-GCAP who employ robots with a "next" button who have charisma bypasses and zero personality.
Thanks Dave for remembering the Elevator quiz.
