Any suggestions on how to record streams onto mp3? I've got one workaround on Winamp but wondering what others do?

I can't say I've ever tried, but a quick bit of experimenting and just pointing wget at Kriss' stream URL worked:

Code: Select all

wget http://krissradio.redirectme.net:8000/ -O kriss.mp3
The -O kriss.mp3 makes sure the stream is dumped to file with a convenient name, else index.html will be used. Once the file started getting written playback of it was possible with MPlayer or VLC (IME VLC works better with files also in use by other processes).

Likely what will be dumped will be playable by most MP3 players, but the MP3 file may not be perfectly valid (missing file headers, etc.) and so some picky stuff might complain, or freeze/crash. A program called MP3 Diags can be used to fix faulty MP3 files.

Hi there,

Newbie here so I hope it's ok to put in a mention for a Scottish free radio station?

I'm talking about Scotland 69am (or 1 Alba Scotland 69am, to give it it's full title) and their stream is on http://scotland69am.selfip.com:8000/listen.pls" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . The station broadcasts on various FM frequencies throughout the east coast of Scotland as well as being available via the following streaming platforms;
vTuner, Reciva, TuneIn, SHOUTcast and Winamp.

Their website address is http://www.freeradio.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and they also have a Facebook group page, https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/scotland69am/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .
